When I was younger, I remember hearing the saying, “a leopard never changes its spots.” When I asked what it meant I was told that “people don’t change.”

There’s also that irritating saying, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” For years I operated on the premise that people don’t change. But now I disagree.

Now I know that people who don’t want to change don’t change. In our business, I see people change all the time. I’ve changed for the better and probably, hopefully, so have you.

You are not a can of soup. You don’t have a “label” that doesn’t change.

Your ingredients are always evolving.

From fearful to courageous.

From fragile to resilient.

From procrastinator to action taker.

From passive to assertive.

From doubting to trusting yourself.

Avoid applying the labels you don’t want onto yourself and living back into them.

No matter what age you are or where you find yourself in life, you believe you can change and have growth toward whatever you want. You can do it for yourself but also for those around you.

Jim Rohn said, “The greatest gift you can give somebody is your own personal development. I used to say, ‘If you will take care of me, I will take care of you.’ Now I say, ‘I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me.'”
